PRINCE2™ Project Methodology
PRINCE version 2 is a government sponsored structured method for effective project management. PRINCE stands for PRojects IN Controlled Environments and its Processes, Components and Techniques combine to produce the methodology as a whole.

The Office of Government Commerce - see their PRINCE2™ website - continue to support and develop the methodology. It is a de facto standard used extensively by the UK Government and widely recognised and used in the private sector both in the UK and internationally.
The PRINCE2™ Processes.
PRINCE2™ covers the project life cycle with a series of processes. These are -
  • Starting up a Project
  • Initiating a Project
  • Controlling a Stage - Managing Product Delivery
  • Managing Stage Boundaries
  • Closing a Project

In addition, there is an overriding process called Directing a Project which links into other processes and a separate process called Planning.

The PRINCE2™ Methodology can appear, for smaller projects, to be restrictive and heavy on documentation but its principles can be applied beneficially to all projects. The PRINCE2™ methodolgy is scalable and the OGC produce guidance on this.
